Elle King’s headlining set at an iconic Texas venue that was slated to take place this Friday (January 26) has been postponed to September, per an announcement on Wednesday (January 24). Billy Bob’s Texas, hailed the “world’s largest honky tonk” in Fort Worth, announced King’s show would be rescheduled.
King, 34, was initially set to take the stage this Friday at 10 p.m. The event is pushed back to Saturday, September 21 at the same time. Billy Bob’s Texas stated: “Original event tickets will be accepted for the new date. Refunds are available at the point of purchase. Thank you for understanding!” Neither Billy Bob’s Texas nor King shared an explanation for the postponed show as of publication time on Wednesday afternoon (January 24). King has not publicly announced or commented on the newly-scheduled date in Fort Worth.
A representative for the Texas venue reportedly told TMZ that King’s team told Billy Bob’s on Wednesday that King would no longer perform, though the team apparently did not explain why.
The announcement comes shortly after King delivered a performance in honor of Dolly Parton that prompted an apology from the Grand Ole Opry. King was part of the lineup during an “Opry Goes Dolly” show to celebrate the music legend’s 78th birthday on January 19. The show was held at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Downtown Nashville, Tennessee.
Videos circulated on social media of King appearing drunk on stage, telling the crowd she was “f***ing hammered,” “holy sh*t, don’t tell Dolly [as she seemed to forget the lyrics to Parton’s ‘Marry Me’ on stage],” and other comments using profanity.
The Grand Ole Opry apologized to one social media user, who said King “ruined the night,” and “it was a shame to witness that” during their first time seeing an Opry show. The Opry wrote: “…we deeply regret and apologize for the language that was used during last night’s second Opry performance.”
Since then, comments about King’s performance have circulated on social media, including from Parton’s younger sister, Stella Parton. Stella, 74, said in part: “When you disrespect someone in my family you have disrespected every one of us.”
King has not publicly commented on the tribute performance as of publication time on Wednesday.
