ROAD CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS
ALASKA HIGHWAY MP 1309 TOK RIVER BRIDGE REPLACEMENT ROAD CONSTRUCTION through October
- Construction crews are working on the new Tok River Bridge.
- Drivers should be aware of DELAYS with PILOT CAR and flagging operations.
- Drivers should be aware of a DETOUR and reduced speeds of 35 MPH, as well as intermittent flagging operations.
- Crews are working from 7:00am to 5:30pm. Please be aware of trucks and equipment entering and exiting the work zone. Tok River State Campground is open and will remain open through construction.
BADGER ROAD TWO-WAY LEFT-TURN LANES ROAD CONSTRUCTION through October
- Crews have finished mainline pavement and are now working to finish the project.
- Throughout the week of August 26, crews will be working between Dennis Road and Old Badger Road on paving approaches and driveways. Crews will also be working along the shoulder, including hauling and shaping material to protect the new asphalt. Drivers should expect flagging operations and DELAYS up to 10 minutes.
- Crews are also seeding the slopes and installing signs. Drivers should expect flagging operations with short DELAYS, and be aware of slow moving equipment.
- No work is expected to occur from Saturday, August 31 through Monday, September 2, in observance of Labor Day Weekend.
CHENA HOT SPRINGS ROAD MP 20 JENNY M CREEK BRIDGE ROAD CONSTRUCTION through October
- Crews will be working Monday through Saturday, from 7:00am to 6:00pm.
- Crews are installing gravel and pavement and drivers should be aware of trucks entering and exiting the project site.
- Please be aware of possible DELAYS with flagging operations and gravel road surface on the bypass.
- Drivers should expect DETOURS with reduced speeds of 35 MPH.
COLLEGE ROAD MEDIAN EXTENSION ROAD CONSTRUCTION through the season
- Work on this project has been postponed.
DANBY STREET TO WEMBLEY AVENUE ROUNDABOUT & WEMBLEY AVENUE IMPROVEMENTS ROAD CONSTRUCTION through August
- Crews will be using trucks to haul backfill material to and from the site on both Danby Street and Wembley Avenue.
- Please be aware of trucks entering and exiting the area.
- Crews are working from 7:00am to 7:00pm, 7 days a week, with brief periods of night shift work.
- Drivers should be aware of CHANGING TRAFFIC PATTERNS, as well as LANE RESTRICTIONS and flagging operations.
- Drivers should also expect brief CLOSURES for paving and striping operations later in the summer
FAIRBANKS AND NORTH POLE LIBRARIES AND BIG DIPPER PLUG-INS (CMAQ) & FMATS: CARLSON CENTER MOTOR VEHICLE PLUG-INS (CMAQ) ROAD CONSTRUCTION through the season
- Construction crews are installing vehicle plug-ins in the Big Dipper Ice Arena and Carlson Center parking lots. Please be alert to workers and equipment.
- Drivers should be aware that some parking spots will not be available during construction.
FAIRBANKS AREA SIGNAL UPGRADES ROAD CONSTRUCTION through the season
- Crews are currently working at the Trainor Gate Road and Steese Highway intersection and along College Road at Steese Highway and Old Steese Highway.
- Please be aware of crews and equipment working at all four corners of the intersections, as well as possible flagging operations and TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS to facilitate moving construction equipment.
- Crews will also be working at the following intersections during August:
- Airport Way/Davis Road
- Dartmouth Road/Chena Ridge Road and Chena Pump Road
- Cowles Street/Airport Way
- College Road/IIlinois Street
- Airport Way/Peger Road
- Airport Way/Cushman Street
- Drivers should expect flagging operations and possible DELAYS while crews are working at various project sites.
FAIRBANKS RAMP SIGHT DISTANCE IMPROVEMENTS ROAD CONSTRUCTION through the season
- Beginning Monday, August 26, crews will be working on the ramp from eastbound Johansen Expressway to southbound Peger Road.
- Drivers should watch for advisories on the message boards. Expect LANE CLOSURES, flagging operations, and possible DELAYS while crews are working in various zones along the ramp.
- Pedestrians will be directed to a temporary pedestrian pathway at the LANE CLOSURE.
- From Friday, September 6 through Sunday, September 8, the ramp from eastbound Johansen Expressway to southbound Peger Road will be CLOSED.
FMATS INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS ROAD CONSTRUCTION through November
- Work is expected to begin in June.
- Drivers should expect flagging operations and night work, as well as DELAYS while crews are working at various project sites.
FMATS SIDEWALK IMPROVEMENTS ROAD CONSTRUCTION through November
- Work is expected to start in June.
- Drivers should expect flagging operations and night work, as well as DELAYS while crews are working at various project sites throughout Fairbanks and North Pole.
FMATS SURFACE UPGRADES 2019 ROAD CONSTRUCTION through November
- Work is expected to start in June.
- Drivers should expect flagging operations and night work, as well as DELAYS while crews are working at various project sites throughout Fairbanks and North Pole.
GILLAM WAY RECONSTRUCTION ROAD CONSTRUCTION through October
- ROAD CLOSURE
- Expected to begin in late June, Gillam Way is expected to be CLOSED from 17th Avenue to 21st Avenue. Drivers should also expect southbound LANE CLOSURES on Gillam Way from Airport Way to 17th Avenue.
GOLD MINE TRAIL ROAD UPGRADE ROAD CONSTRUCTION through August
- ROAD CLOSURE
- Through Friday, June 7, Gold Mine Trail, at the Steese Highway, is CLOSED. Crews are working 14 hours a day, 7 days a week. Drivers should use Gilmore Trail to access the Steese Highway during this CLOSURE.
- Drivers should expect periodic ROAD CLOSURES throughout the duration of this project. Each CLOSURE is expected to last up to 72 hours. Drivers should also expect DELAYS.
PARKS HIGHWAY (MITCHELL EXPRESSWAY), MP 356 to 362 RESURFACING ROAD CONSTRUCTION through October
- ROAD CLOSURE
- Expected to go through the week of June 10, the Richardson-bound lanes of the Mitchell Expressway are CLOSED, while crews upgrade bridges and resurface the highway. Drivers coming from Ester will need to exit at Geist Road. Traffic will be able to cross the Mitchell Expressway at University Avenue, Peger Road and Lathrop Street. Please follow posted signs for DETOUR routes.
- Expect north and south bound LANE CLOSURES with DETOURS between MP 356 and 362 for approximately 4 weeks at a time.
- Drivers should also expect DELAYS while crews are working in the area.
RICHARDSON HIGHWAY, MP 353 to 357 ACCESS IMPROVEMENTS ROAD CONSTRUCTION through the season
- Work is expected to start in June.
- Drivers should expect LANE CLOSURES and flagging operations, as well as possible DELAYS.
UNIVERSITY AVENUE SIDE STREETS ROAD CONSTRUCTION through September
- Drivers should expect LANE RESTRICTIONS during the day and at night, with possible DELAYS up to 20 minutes.
- Through the week of May 27, the pedestrian crosswalk will be closed at the intersection of University Avenue and Sandvik Street while crews work on the pedestrian crosswalk signal. Pedestrian access will be maintained. Please follow posted pedestrian detour signs.
