Tim McGraw is 'Deeply Moved' by Student Protesters

Tim McGraw has taken notice of the young people who have come out in droves to protest following the school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida.

After the country star discovered he had a personal connection to one of the 17 victims of the tragedy, he took to Instagram to support the student-led movement that has since followed.

“I learned one of the teachers who was shot in Florida at Stoneman Douglas, Scott Beigel, was a friend of one of my associates—they were camp counselors together,” Tim wrote. “What an amazing man who lost his life protecting the children. That is a true hero. And I’m deeply moved by these students who are lifting their voices—challenging us to listen, learn, and make real changes.”

In his post, Tim added “#NeverAgain,” a group formed by students who are organizing protest marches in the days following the shooting to call for stricter gun control. School walkouts have already been held this week across Florida and the nation at large.

Tim and wife Faith Hill themselves spoke out in favor of “common sense” gun reform following the Las Vegas massacre at Route 91 Harvest country music festival.

“The doctors that (treated) the wounded, they saw wounds like you’d see in war,” Faith told Billboard in October 2017. “That’s not right. Military weapons should not be in the hands of civilians. It’s everyone’s responsibility, including the government and the National Rifle Association (NRA) to tell the truth. We all want a safe country.”

The movement continues with a National School Walkout planned for March 14. A student-organized March for Our Lives is slated for March 24.
